Puerling, Robert

Born Jan. 26, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wis., died at his home in Camarillo Sept. 1, 2010.

Bob moved with his parents, Sam and Norma Puerling, to Santa Barbara in 1937. He was a graduate of Santa Barbara Catholic High School. He served in the US Navy in WWII as an aviation ordinance man 3rd class. He graduated from Loyola University - Los Angeles in 1950 with a bachelors degree and an ROTC commission in the US Air Force Reserve. He served 28 years in the reserves, initially as an armament officer and subsequently as a security and law enforcement officer, primarily as a reserve special agent with the USAF office of special investigation (OSI).

Bob was co-founder of Riviera Adjusters, an insurance claims adjustment and private investigations company. He moved his family to Camarillo from Inglewood in 1972. He served as a lector for his parish church, St. Mary Magdalen, for many years. He and his family are so grateful to those who cared for him after a heart attack in 1986, which caused him to retire early. He lived an almost normal life for over 24 years cruising, touring Europe, hunting, fishing and enjoying his family.

He and his family are extremely grateful for his team of doctors and nurses who have helped him over the years with his many health issues.

Bob is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Lorraine; daughter, Christine; sons, Peter (Sharon) and Donald (Pam); granddaughters, Nicole and Elizabeth; brother, Thomas (Patricia); sister, Dorothy (William) Sangster; and many nieces and nephews in Southern California as well as numerous cousins in Wisconsin. We will all miss you very much and know that you are at peace.

A visitation at 10 a.m. will be followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at St. Mary Magdalens Catholic Church in Camarillo (Las Posas and Crestview). Burial to follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park with full military honors.
