|Pomeroy, Mary Lou|
Mary Lou Pomeroy died as a result of Lung Cancer at the age of 86 in Camarillo, California on Saturday morning June 16, 2012. She was blessed to be surrounded by family in her own home when she passed away.
Mary Lou Sheridan was born in Farley, Iowa on August 15, 1925 in the family home. She was born to John Paul Sheridan and Elva Knapp and grew up in Iowa and Illinois. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in June of 1942. Her family made the long trek to California in the mid 1940's after her graduation. She married George Strickland Pomeroy on September 15, 1946 in Van Nuys, California.
George was born in Evanston, Illinois on October 9, 1918, and passed away on September 11, 2002 of Alzheimer's disease. George and Mary Lou lived in the San Fernando Valley until their move to Camarillo in 1977. She loved her Church, her family and her dear friends. She was a true social butterfly and was always the 'life of the party'. Her wit and wisdom stayed with her until the very end.
She is survived by her brother Robert Sheridan and her children, John and Lori Pomeroy, Bruce and Carolyn Pomeroy and Janet Moormann. She left an incredible legacy of 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her dear friends Ruth Bartholomew, Kathy Perry and Yvonne Gemellaro provided support and love during her entire illness.
She was diagnosed with cancer in October of last year. Her son John and daughter-in-law, Lori stayed with her during the progression of the disease allowing her to be in the home she so loved surrounded by friends and family.
Mary Lou's Memorial Service will be held on June 27, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley Bible Church, 1101 East Ponderosa Drive, Camarillo, CA 93010 (corner of Ponderosa Road and Lantana). There will be a reception immediately following the ceremony at the Church. She will be buried with her husband George at the Eternal Valley Cemetery in Newhall, California.
In lieu of flowers, Mary Lou's family would appreciate donations in her name to a charity she was very passionate about - Awana, care of Pleasant Valley Bible Church at the above address.
A very special thank you to her amazing friends at Bone Builders, Tuesday Bingo at McDonalds, Awana, The Good Grief Group and especially her dear friends at Pleasant Valley Bible Church.
John 3:16 was her favorite Bible Verse: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
