Thousand Oaks, CA
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions placed upon us by the state of California, we are required to limit the number of mourners who can attend the funeral service. Attendance will be strictly enforced and by invitation only. A memorial in honor of our beloved patriarch will be scheduled to celebrate his life once these restrictions have been lifted. Our family wishes to extend our apologies to those who cannot attend due to the current circumstances. Your wishes and prayers are so very welcomed and appreciated.
Alfonso had a love of life. He was youthful and had a childlike quality about him. His sweet innocent way of being engaged young and old alike. Any song would make him break out in a little dance right there where ever he was standing. He always had a smile on his face. He was truly a people person. No one was a stranger to him.
While he had many interests, his passion for baseball was undeniable. He passed down that passion to all of his children and grandchildren. Hands down the Dodgers were his team. He would strike up a conversation with anyone to discuss the year’s statistics. He waited each year with baited breath hoping, wishing and cheering for the Dodgers to win the World Series. Go Dodgers.
He endured many hardships throughout his life, but he never complained. His deep rooted belief in God carried him through misfortune right up to the end.
But above all, he was a family man. He was dedicated hard-working and always provided for his family, even in his later years and when he was ill, he took care of us.
Alfonso Duarte, Sr. is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gloria, his four daughters, Minerva, Michelle, Cynthia, and Mercedes, his youngest son, Alfonso, Jr. (Patricia), and his grandchildren, Evan, Mercedes, Vienna, Ivan, Efren, Samantha and Ryan, and was preceded in death by his first-born son, Jerry.
Daddy, Dad, Papa, Pops no matter what we called him he influenced our lives and touched our hearts. He is the person we looked up to. He was our rock.
"I am not ashamed to say that no man I ever met was my father's equal, and I never loved any other man as much.”
