Thousand Oaks, CA
On January 25, 2021 Debbie went to be with the Lord. Debbie fought with all her might but in the end cancer won.
Debbie was born in Tulsa Oklahoma, February 19, 1956 and moved at the age of 7 with her family to Newbury Park in 1963. Debbie's family were charter members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in which she was very active.
Debbie was the first box girl hired at Fazio's now Vons, in Newbury Park. She graduated from Newbury Park High School in 1974 then graduated from California Lutheran College with honors in 1978.
Shortly after graduation Debbie was hired by United Airlines as the administrative secretary to the manager of the reservations in El Segundo. During her 40-year career with United, Debbie made many lifelong friends, played on the women's softball team and traveled to many cities and states for games... her favorite being Honolulu, Hawaii.
Debbie took a new position at United as a crew scheduler which required a move to Chicago. As a crew scheduler, she was scheduling flight attendants all over the world. She was loved by flight attendants and co-workers alike. She tried to accommodate flight attendants' needs and also trained many of United's crew schedulers.
While living in El Segundo, Debbie took a quilting class and she never looked back. Debbie has made over 1000 quilts which she lovingly donated, made by request, and made for friends and family alike. These quilts are loved and treasured by all who have them.
Debbie was overly generous with family, friends, co-workers, and causes she believed in. When her nephew David and her niece Katie each turned 13, she took them for an all-expense paid 7-day trip to Hawaii. Debbie loved traveling and she and her parents shared many trips all over the world.
Debbie is lovingly survived by her mother Vi of Thousand Oaks; her brother and his wife, Dave and Mary of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; nephew David (Meghan); niece Katie (Addison); and 4 great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many relatives, including 18 cousins and many dear friends. Her father Elmer preceded her in death.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3947 W. Kimber Dr., Newbury Park. Later this year, Debbie's life will be celebrated and she will be laid to rest at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Freistatt, Missouri.
Any memorials you may choose to offer in Debbie's name can be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Newbury Park, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
