George Oliver Littlejohn

June 7, 1936 ~ March 4, 2021 (age 84)


George O. Littlejohn went to be with his Lord on March 4th, 2021.  He passed quietly at home after a brief illness.

   George was born June 7th, 1936 to John O. and Murrell B. Littlejohn in New Orleans, Louisiana. He left home when he was 18 for Navy bootcamp in San Diego. In 1955 he was assigned to the USS Stoddard, DD566, base at the Pacific Missile Test Center Point Mugu. During his time there he met Carol Ann Sawtelle and they were married September 22, 1956 at the St Mary Magdalen Chapel, Camarillo. George and Carol spent 62 wonderful years together before Carol’s passing in November of 2018. After being honorably discharged in June of 1957 he worked for Raytheon and was also a deputy constable for the County of Ventura. In 1966 he left Raytheon and spent the next 28 years working for the Federal Government as an electrical engineer at the Pacific Missile Test Center, Point Mugu, on the Sidewinder missile program.  George also spent 20 years with the Boy Scouts as the scoutmaster for troop 243 in Camarillo with his sons. There were many weekends spent camping in the back country of Ventura county as well as yearly hikes in the Sierras. After retiring from civil service, George spent 15 years driving youth vans for the Boy’s and Girl’s club and the Trinity Church preschool and daycare. George was a dedicated family man, enjoying family camping trips and visiting family in Louisiana. George and Carol enjoyed square dancing and singing in the church choir. 

    George is survived by his sisters Emma Louise and Carol and his brother David, his sons and daughters-in-law, George and Rita Littlejohn of Santa Maria, Michael and Vicki Littlejohn of Ojai,  his daughters Sarah Littlejohn of Camarillo and Cathy Littlejohn of San Diego, along with 7 grandchildren and 11great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carol and his brother Joseph.
