James was born September 11, 1924, the third child of six to Joseph and Julia Garcia in Los Angeles. He passed away peacefully n surrounded by his children on March 19, 2022.

He was raised on 73rd Street, in Los Angeles.  James served in the Navy during World War II and worked as an RTD bus driver for over 30 years.  He had four children by his first wife Ida Becker and a stepdaughter by Ruby Garnett to whom he was married to for 31 years.

James volunteered many hours at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church, was a captain usher, belonged to the Men's club, worked in the kitchen for various events, was a money counter, and worked endless hours at the annual festival.

He is survived by his brother Richard Garnett; children James (Jan) Garnett, Johni Lynn (Ty) Pruett, Jane (Ben) Summers, Jay (Patty) Garnett; stepdaughter Lisa (Jim) Lister; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at Griffin Family Funeral Chapels, 101 E. Wilbur Rd., Thousand oaks. Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1 at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church, 155 E. Janss Rd., Thousand Oaks. James will be laid to rest at Valley Oaks Memorial Park, Westlake Village.
