Kathleen was born in Sauk City, Wisconsin. She was the second of four children of Norman Joseph and Catherine Lenora Knipschield Weitzel. She grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin where she graduated from St. Mary School and Janesville High School. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, she taught Spanish and English at Sheboygan North High School.
In 1961, she and Mark H. Wagner were married and settled in Long Beach, California. Two of their children, Heather and Kurt, were born there. In 1965, the young family moved to Thousand Oaks where their youngest daughter, Nicole, joined the family.
Mark and Kathleen were a “match made in heaven.” They truly loved each other, shared many of life’s pleasures and always did everything together.
Kathleen enjoyed reading, gardening, sports, pets, painting and crafts. She was a long-time member of the Conejo Valley Garden Club and a member and docent of the Conejo Valley Historical Society. She was devoted to her faith, being an active member at St. Paschal Baylon Parish. She took great care of her family, preparing meals and supporting her children’s activities as an officer of local PFA and PTA groups. Kathleen was proud to be a Wisconsin Badger.
Kathleen was classy and charming. She had an ability to make others laugh. She stayed sharp-minded all her life, enjoying crossword puzzles, card games and Cribbage. Kathleen will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Heather Brandt, Kurt Wagner, and Nicole Bhathal; grandchildren: Kevin and Courtney Brandt, Lucie, Brian, Tiffany, and Matthew Wagner, and Marcus Bhathal; brother Norman J. Weitzel, Jr. and sister-in-law Lu An Weitzel of Janesville, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews; and her son-in-law Alex Bhathal. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John L. Weitzel, and sister Leah Rae Corlett. After 56 years of marriage, her beloved husband Mark passed away in February 2018.
