Loretta Marie Campbell Lombard of Newbury Park, Santa Paula, Ojai and Fillmore, a graduate of Fillmore High School, switchboard operator, Sequoia Intermediate School aid and 46-year resident of Newbury Park, died on December 13, 2021 at the age of 84 at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks after a short bout with cancer.
Loretta was born in Corning, Arkansas on a blissful day in February, 1937. She moved to Fillmore in 1943. She was a telephone switchboard operator for Pacific Bell, Rockwell Science Center and Northrup. She was so good at her job she was constantly being recruited by other companies. Many may have fond memories of her as an aid at Manzanita elementary school and Sequoia Intermediate School where she assisted Mr. Kane and developed friendships with other memorable teachers like Mr. Ledwon among others. She took great joy in serving the students. On July 19, 1959 she married Ronald Lombard in Fillmore in a dual wedding along with his best friend Bill Winfrey and Loretta’s sister Patsy Campbell.
Loretta “Rado”, “Double L”, “Mimi”, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and an avid RV enthusiast. She enjoyed traveling the country with Ron for many months out of each year, developing life long friendships along the way. She was a member of the Ebell Club of Santa Paula, United Methodist Church of Newbury Park and the local PTA. She loved competing in bowling leagues, enjoyed tennis, sewing, arts and crafts and managing numerous girls’ Bobby Sox softball teams. She also loved oceanography and visiting the beautiful beaches and tidepools of California and Oregon. She enjoyed cruising as well. Some of her favorite cruises were through the Panama Canal to Cartagena Columbia, the Caribbean Islands, Baja Mexico and Alaska.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Ronald Lombard; children, Scott Lombard, Kimberly Mack and Pamela Losey; grandchildren, Kyla Miller, Jeffrey Losey, Keana Mack, Chanda Lubinski (husband Christian), Kanan Mack, Kody Mack, Jill Ripley (husband Tyler), and Christy Jessup (husband Tanner); great grandchildren, Naomi Mack, Caleb Ripley, Lyle Jessup, Kaden Jessup and Elijah Jessup; sister Patsy Winfrey (husband Bill); and brother Bobby Campbell. She is predeceased by her brothers Herbert, Arvell and Sterling; sister Winona; mother Dolly Lela Swift Campbell; and father Arrell “Clif” Clifton Campbell.
An informal family gathering will be held in honor of Loretta’s life. She asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Foundation for Women’s Cancer – Uterine/Endometrial Cancer or National Breast Cancer Foundation.
