Thousand Oaks, CA
Sydney Leota (Wilcox) Baughman passed away peacefully on March 15, 2022.
Sydney was born on May 12, 1935 in Seattle, WA. to Wesley R. Wilcox and Edyth Leota (Meeks) Wilcox. Sydney attended Olympic View Elementary, John Marshall Jr. High school, Roosevelt High school and her alma mater, University of Washington in which she became a rabid Husky fan. It was at that time she met a handsome guy that drove a convertible sports car.
Sydney blessed Donald R. Baughman’s life when she married him on June 29, 1957. Early in their marriage Sydney worked for Washington Natural Gas Company in Seattle. In the 60s they welcomed their children Jeffrey and Kimberly to complete their family. Many fond memories of these younger years were the beach life with aunts, uncles, cousins and road trips to the southwest looking for Indian rugs and pottery.
Don’s career with Farmers Insurance relocated them to Tacoma, WA. Salt Lake City, UT. Portland, OR. Los Angeles, and Thousand Oaks. Upon Don’s retirement they traveled to Mexico where they fell in love with Puerto Vallarta and spent many months out of the year in this beautiful place. It was in Puerto Vallarta that Sydney searched the beach for small seashells and named the purple and gold ones “Husky” after her alma mater. Sydney had a personality that drew many friends to her and was indeed a truly beautiful woman inside and out.
Sydney is survived by her loving husband, Don; children Jeff D. Baughman (Marilyn) of Boise, ID. and Kym A. Baughman of Thousand Oaks; grandchildren Kaitlyn (Jordan) Browning of South Burlington, VT. and Will House of Olympia, WA.; sister, Sandy Viert of Puyallup, WA.; and brother, Bill Wilcox (Jennifer) of Seattle, WA.
A celebration of life is currently being planned.
