William L. Shelton passed away on July 1, 2020 at the age of 88 after a lengthy illness. He lived in Camarillo for about 55 years. He and his future wife Ann Mize were both born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida. They both attended Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach. William then went to University of Florida while Ann went to Florida State. They had been married for almost 63 years when Ann passed away in 2015.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and was in the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Rainier as an electronic technician. In 1957 he went to work for Sylvania Electronic Defense Laboratories in Mountain View, CA where he designed microwave components and wrote articles published in the Microwave Journal. He then worked in civil service at Point Mugu and Port Hueneme as an electronic engineer for the next 28 years until retirement. He was heavily involved in radar, laser, and infrared testing onboard Navy ships and military bases. He did computer programming for evaluation programs, and data reduction and analysis. He taught classes on infrared and lasers.
In retirement, William and Ann both did extensive genealogy research. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Camarillo was a big source for their information. They also made quite a few trips within the U.S. and to Europe for vacation, seeing sites significant to their ancestors, and gathering more genealogical information. He had articles published in genealogy magazines.
He is survived by daughter Patricia (Patty) and son William Jr. (Bill).
