William “Bill” Joerger, 85, of Thousand Oaks, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021, in Thousand Oaks after a lengthy illness.
He was born November 29, 1935, in Cresco, Iowa, and was a resident of Thousand Oaks for 53 years. He served in the U.S. Army before marrying his wife Dee and graduating from Iowa State University. Bill went on to a career as a computer systems engineer for 35 years. He was active coaching Bobby Sox Softball and was instrumental in establishing girls softball fields at Los Cerritos Middle School. He was also active in Westlake High School Track Boosters and many other community efforts. He was passionate about maintaining extended family connections and planning family reunions.
Bill is survived by his daughter Michelle (Steve) Sandborn of South Lake Tahoe; son David (Wendi) Yeager of Arvada, CO; son, Scott (Tiffany) Joerger of Scottsdale, AZ; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and brothers Gene (Marilyn) of Urbandale, IA and Jerry (Nancy) of Charles City, IA. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Diane “Dee” in 2012, and by his sister Ruth Joerger.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private family memorial was held followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery, Simi Valley. Memorial donations may be made in Bill’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
